How To Cut Your Fuel Bills With Fiberglass Windows
A fiberglass window can provide more insulation and a better fit than any other material, and the same goes for fiberglass doors. Although fiberglass can be a hazardous material to work with if you don't take the necessary safety precautions, it is perfectly safe for those who work with it as a profession. The side benefits of the material to society are enormous, as the amount of fuel, and consequently carbon emissions, which could be saved could have a major effect on preserving the environment. Not only that, a high quality fiberglass finish can match anything else for aesthetic quality.
It is still relatively rare to see fiberglass windows in modern homes. Why this should be is something of a mystery, as the advantages over competing material is clear for all too see. Even government agencies are now promoting fiberglass windows as the best alternative. They have none of the disadvantages of competing materials. The most traditional material, wood, has always a tendency to bend and warp as time passes, and this trend has been exacerbated by the increased temperatures indoors, due to modern heating systems.
The more modern alternatives have not proven to be much better, and they certainly cannot compete with wood for aesthetics. Vinyl can behave in a very similar way to wood over time, as it shrinks or sags due to wear and tear. Aluminum does not do this, although it often needs a “thermal break” to function properly. Even when this happens, the resulting window will not have the efficiency of one made from fiberglass.
Fiberglass windows can also be far more aesthetic than the alternatives, and they can into many more styles of home. With a plastic window, you are really limited to the colors you can paint the plastic with, and whichever color you choose it will still look like plastic. Metal window frames can really only look metallic, although they can be painted. Wood is more visually pleasing and versatile, but with a price to pay. A fiberglass window can look exactly like a wooden one, but it can provide far greater insulation.
As the ideal is to have a window frame which expands and contracts at the same rate as glass, there can be nothing more logical than using a glass based material in the manufacture. Although there was never any guarantee that the altered compound would perform the same way, evidence has proven that it does. In this way, heat loss through windows is reduced to the lowest possible level. You can keep your room at a comfortable temperature with less fuel used. With the justified concern over fossil fuels and the effect they are having on the environment, it is time to take a very serious look at fiberglass windows.
